The Personal Best Development Programmes

The Corporate Athlete Programme

Much of what makes elite athletes successful is directly transferable to the business world. Just as an athlete has to communicate and work well with their team, and take personal responsibility for their actions, so does the corporate athlete.
A four day modular programme delivered over a period of four to six months, the Corporate Athlete Programme takes an in depth look at a number of different sporting personalities. Each session begins with an insightful and inspirational presentation by a leading athlete. A Starling Woods consultant then takes delegates through the programme for that particular session. Helping them to apply what they have learnt back in their everyday work life.
As the sessions progress the common factors between the corporate athlete and the sports athlete will become increasingly apparent.

Business areas this development programme impacts upon include:

  • Goal/target setting
  • Internal client relationship management
  • Collaborative influencing
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership

Corporate Coach - Embedding a developmental culture

Getting the most out of our programmes requires a high level of commitment from both the employer organisation and the employee.
If the training is to be more than just a tick box exercise for the HR function, then employees must be encouraged to engage in reflective self-development, and the organisation must foster appropriate and ongoing mentoring and coaching.
For team leaders involved with encouraging reflective self-development and providing the ongoing support, we have created the Corporate Coach Workshop; a one day module that helps managers develop team member behaviours in a way that boosts skill sets and improves performance.

Emerging Leaders

Our emerging leaders programme assists organisations fast track their talent.

Providing skills for new leaders

Emerging Leaders is a two day programme, which is specifically designed for employees who show signs of becoming future leaders within the business, and who may be fast tracked into roles with greater responsibilities. The aim of the programme is to help participants develop attributes necessary to assume greater responsibility in the organisation that are normally only acquired after many years in a leadership role - and not always then.

Making Connections

This session focuses on developing the variety of external relationships required to help grow the organisation's business. This includes developing the skills required to form alliances with a range of stakeholders, both individuals and organisations, that impact on the day-to-day business of the organisation; and not just clients.
The session provides practical advice on understanding the needs, and aspirations of stakeholders, as well as the challenges that they face.

Business areas this development model will impact upon:
- Client Relationship Management
- Deal making
- Influencing
- Dealing with the media
- Understanding others

The Commitment Workshop

This workshop is designed to follow on from one of our Individuals of Excellence keynote presentations and is facilitated by a Starling Woods consultant. Drawing on the experiences illustrated by the keynote speaker, the consultant guides the delegates as they determine the commitments required to drive the business forward, and the actions that will help deliver these commitments.

Experiential Learning

Whilst all of our courses are interactive we also offer the option to get physically active whilst learning.

Corporate Sailing

Teamwork and leadership are the focus of this exhilarating day. Starling Woods offers this course both on Lake Windermere and on Plymouth Sound with Matt Heath leading the day. As an Ocean Yacht Master, and trans-Atlantic yachtsman, he will enable individuals to discover the best in themselves and others. This day is designed to enable people of all abilities and experience to work together in a safe, fun and challenging environment.

Corporate Climbing

Communication and trust are the foundations of successful teamwork, and the focus of the Corporate Climbing session. The levels of trust and communication shown between climbing partners are second to none; and delegates get to experience this at first hand.

Led by Starling Woods consultants and some of the best climbing instructors in the business, this is an indoors activity based day, where every session member can find a level of physical activity that they are comfortable with, and where everyone has a role to play. It is a mix of inspiration and skill acquisition linked back to business life.

Wellbeing programme

Considering the background and combined knowledge of Starling Woods' founders it would be wrong for us not to offer a Wellbeing programme. With the latest research illustrating that British business loses £100bn per year in lost time to sickness and poor health it is apparent that it is more important than ever to invest in the health and lifestyle of your employees than ever.
At Starling Woods we offer all the knowledge required in implementing health and lifestyle plans to suit your business and employees.
We can run a morning or day long presentation on health and fitness for employees that will spell out the "good bad and ugly" of food, fitness, and posture. We can advise on gym programmes for employees, and can consult on putting a gym together in the workplace that will actually benefit all, not just the few.
